Cavan LGFA Captain Shauna Lynch cuts the ribbon alongside the store team to open Cavan’s new Lidl store

Cavan LGFA star Shauna Lynch was delighted to cut the ribbon to official open the new Lidl store in Cavpran on Thursday morning alongside Sharon Lynch, Sales Operation Manger, Lidl & Saulius Miseikis, Store Manager, Lidl Cavan.

Lidl Ireland opened the doors to its brand new store in Cavan today,  bringing its 'More to Value' proposition to the Cavan community.

Located on Ballinagh Road, in Cavan town, a brand new store has been built to replace the original store that served the community for more than 25 years. This represents a significant milestone in the retailer’s investment in Cavan and creates 16 new permanent jobs.

Cavan County LGFA Captain, Shauna Lynch officially cut the ribbon this morning and greeted shoppers as they enjoyed the opening day festivities.

Lidl Cavan had a great range of opening day offers available for customers and the first ten shoppers through the doors received complimentary Lidl gift vouchers to redeem in-store.

To mark the opening as part of its commitment to the local community, the Lidl Cavan store team selected local charity SOSAD (Cavan branch), to receive a generous donation of €1,000 in Lidl vouchers.  The charity supports individuals and families in the local Cavan area in managing their mental health and overcoming life's challenges.

The new upgraded store in Cavan reflects Lidl’s established ‘concept’ design and features a spacious sales floor, offering a premier shopping experience for customers including self-service checkouts, long tills, and the popular in-store bakery offering fresh baked goods daily.

Sustainability is a key focus for the Cavan store as the retail unit incorporates an ISO 50001-certified energy management system. This includes high performing energy efficient technologies, the installation of solar panels (PV panels), LED lighting with automatic lighting control, and heat recovery systems. Within the 120-space car park, the provision of a number of bike spaces and electric vehicle (EV) charging points further supports sustainable transport options for customers and store teams.

At the official opening Tom McAuliffe, Regional Managing Director for Lidl Ireland said:

“Having been part of the Cavan community for more than 25 years, we are delighted to officially unveil our new state-of-the-art store and welcome our local customers back through the doors.

Designed with a keen focus on customer experience and sustainability, the innovative building boasts an energy-efficient design, an expanded sales floor, and unique in-store facilities. Shoppers can continue to expect our commitment to offering high-quality products at market-leading value in this more modern shopping environment.

We are incredibly grateful for the warm welcome and support from the Cavan community, and we enjoyed meeting many residents at this morning’s opening.”

Cavan County LGFA Captain, Shauna Lynch, added:

“I was thrilled to be part of the celebrations this morning and to officially cut the ribbon to open Lidl’s brand-new store here in Cavan. As a LGFA player, we see how much support Lidl gives to ladies football and it's great to see that translate into my local community with this brand new store, new jobs and their donation to a local charity.

I really enjoyed meeting all the shoppers this morning and I’m now looking forward to doing the weekly shop again!”

Lidl’s investment in Cavan contributes significantly to the local economy. In 2025 Lidl Ireland confirmed that a total of €130 million worth of goods and services was procured from 17 suppliers and business partners across Cavan in 2024. Key Cavan suppliers include Liffey Meats, Breffni Mushrooms and Lakeland Dairies.

Lidl Ireland was named a ‘Top Employer’ by the Top Employers Institute in 2026 for the sixth year running. The retailer was also named #1 Value for Money Organisation in the 2026 RepTrak Ireland study, and was named Most Sustainable Retailer in Ireland, ranking #6 in the RepTrak® Sustainability Index for 2025.

Lidl Ireland currently employs more than 6,000 employees in its 192 stores, Head Office in Tallaght and three distribution centres and regional offices.
