02.12.2025 | Dublin
Dublin-based plant grower Uniplumo has secured a renewed seasonal supply deal with Ireland’s leading discount retailer Lidl in an expanded contract which will see more than 70,000 Christmas poinsettias sold across Lidl stores throughout the island of Ireland.
The Bord Bia Quality Assurance Scheme Certified producer and grower has been supplying a varied range of vibrant plants and flowers to Lidl Ireland since 2019, from floral and bedding plants for special occasions to everyday garden staples, such as Buxus, Garden Mums and Violas.
The expanded seasonal contract to supply Irish grown Christmas poinsettias has seen Uniplumo scale its business with Lidl Ireland in response to increasing consumer demand for the festive favourite indoor plant.
Operating from seven hectares of heated glasshouses across North County Dublin & Meath, with a team of 100 staff, Uniplumo grows and cultivates over 10 million plants annually and is committed to supplying to the Irish market through its partnership with Lidl Ireland.
Jonathon O’Connor, Senior Buyer of Plants & Flowers at Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland said:
“As a leading Irish plant grower, I’m delighted to see our six-year relationship with Uniplumo continue to thrive with the addition of an expanded seasonal contract to supply the highest quality, locally grown festive poinsettias to customers across the island of Ireland.
With more than 50 years’ experience growing plants and flowers to Bord Bia’s Origin Ireland standard, we’re proud to partner with a local grower focused on freshness and quality and to work in partnership to expand into new product varieties. Poinsettias are a popular choice at Christmas and our Irish Grown Medium Poinsettia continues to be the most popular with our shoppers and last year we sold over 50,000. We’re expecting high demand once again this year from our festive flowers and we look forward to continuing to grow our partnership with Uniplumo over the coming years.”
Rob Lyons, Commercial Manager at Uniplumo said:
"As a proud Irish grower, we’re delighted to expand our partnership with Lidl Ireland to supply the hugely popular festive poinsettias and ensure Lidl stores are stocked with the very best local blooms as Christmas approaches.
With their striking red leaves, poinsettias are the number one choice of plant at Christmas and we’ve seen a huge increase in demand for these over the years. A hardy indoor plant, poinsettias are a great choice thanks to their low maintenance and long life - if cared for correctly, our poinsettias should last the full festive season.
It’s been fantastic to grow our business over the last six years with a retailer like Lidl Ireland. Through this partnership, we’ve been able to scale our business and increase production to meet the demands of a major retailer like Lidl. We’ve also been able to expand into new product lines all while remaining firmly focused on delivering quality, freshness and value for Lidl shoppers this Christmas.”
Lidl Ireland’s expanded new contract with Uniplumo is the retailer’s latest supply deal announced as part of the retailer’s commitment to supporting Irish producers. Earlier this year, the retailer confirmed a new €30 million supply deal with Keohane’s Seafoods based in Bantry, County Cork, and a fresh €7 million expanded contract with Galway’s Galmere Fresh Foods.
Lidl Ireland’s latest Supplier and Business Partner Impact Report found that the retailer procured more than €1.67 billion worth of goods and services from Irish businesses in 2024 - an increase of €41 million (or 2.5%) on the previous year. Of this, Lidl Ireland procured €1.2 billion worth of goods from the Irish agrifood sector in 2024 - up €89 million (or 7%) on 2023.
Lidl continues to give Irish producers unrivalled access to local and international markets supporting the growth and success of Irish produce worldwide. Of the €1.2 billion procured from Irish agri-food producers, €885 million worth of goods stayed within Lidl Ireland’s operations to be sold through its local store network while more than €360 million was exported internationally through Lidl’s expansive network of stores, an increase of almost 5% on 2023 figures.
Lidl’s Irish Grown Premium Poinsettias are available now in all 234 stores across the island of Ireland while stocks last priced at €3.49 for the Irish Grown Medium Poinsettia, €7.99 for the Irish Grown Large Poinsettia and the Irish Grown Premium Poinsettia at €14.99.
